It was an odd moment when I first met the group I would join for my 15-day Vietnam and Cambodia trip. On my thirties myself (let's leave it at that...), I was introduced to these 4 couples that, however lovely and beautiful, were indeed old enough to be my parents...and after a minute of sheer desperation, I made a decision there and then to be as graceful as I could at least for that first night...and to run away from the group at the first given opportunity.
Little did I know at that moment that these 4 captivating couples, these 8 wonderful souls, would not be just a version of my own parents, but would also become my brothers, my sisters, my friends; that Life makes no mistakes and would prove once again that age is nothing but a number with little significance; that the most wonderful thing in life will always be the random encounters that follow us wherever we go; and that if you have your arms and heart open for just a split second, wonderful things can happen.
This blog is a very poor attempt to keep a record of this first Indochina trip, these 15 special days, these 9 intrepid travellers, and one Beloved Leader. I will post here some of the pictures, some of the stories, and some of the memories from that trip, and hopefully from other trips in the future....The blog itself is not important at all. The memories are, though, and I hope you all can come back here once in a while to look at the pictures, remember the moments, and share your own experiences and thoughts, past or present.
All the best!
C.
